Oops, We Did It Again

When reservation bookings opened for Salt Creek in January this year, and we had friends ready for some spring camping, it was fun to book two back-to-back weekend trips in March. This was our second trip in two weeks, to this place that is quickly becoming a favorite getaway. It’s less than two hours from home, and a million miles away from everywhere when the campfire is burning and the sun is going down.

We had a spot we weren’t sure we were going to easily get the trailer into, but after we scoped it out this time, decided it was a slam dunk. And now this is our very favorite site in the campground. Unfortunately, it apparently is not just our favorite site, I searched and found exactly 7 more nights available the rest of the year. Well, we’ll appreciate what we had and book more time next year.

This weekend we had a bicycling date with Kelly & Beau and enjoyed the 20 mile round trip from east to west across the north shore of Lake Crescent. There was some work getting the bikes from one trail to another so we could explore the campground at Fairholme (although it was closed once we finally got there). And the weather was definitely early spring cold and wet, but no squalls and downpours like the weekend before.

We had a lovely lunch at a spot called North Shore Picnic Area, which will hopefully be a place we’ll explore more for a swim on a hot day. What you don’t see in this pic is the Olympic Discovery Trail is running along the north shore of the lake, and there’s also a road servicing the houses and parks along the shoreline.

As we always love to do, we explored a little further this weekend and found some new jewels in the treasure that is the Olympic Peninsula. Every day we are grateful we ended up here. I’ll just leave this pic as a reminder why.
