On the first full weekend of fall we finally had some time for a quick camping trip. We packed up the kitties and went with our friends that we’ll travel to Alaska with next summer. Not really a shake down for us, since we’ve camped together before (and boated and socialized at home). Just a nice quick getaway to somewhere we’ve never stayed in the trailer.

Rob and I came in Friday night so we could leave the trailer Saturday and go to Sequim. Murphy had a soccer game and Max had a birthday party, so we wanted to have the trailer all set up and ready when we got back. Friday night we were treated to a beautiful sunset over Port Townsend Bay and the Olympic mountains. And we got to have a campfire, since Jefferson County had finally lifted the burn ban on Wednesday after some drenching rains during the previous week.

This is Murphy’s victory dance after scoring a goal. He got bonked in the head with the soccer ball by the other team, and it really ticked him off. He ran the ball all the way down and decisively drove it into the goal. He totally has the celebration moves ready. Rob was at the end of the field with his good camera dialed in and has some fabulous shots here on our other website: Murphy Soccer Day .

After the soccer game was Max’s 8th birthday party, themed everything Minecraft. Brittney made a Minecraft pinata. Everyone took a whack and didn’t make any progress until Maxwell took a good kick at it. I guess the years of Taekwondo came in handy after all.

Saturday night we had another campfire, and Sunday was a gorgeous sunny, crisp and clear fall day. We went for a walk around the park, then I hopped on my bicycle and biked around the entire perimeter of this nearly 1,500 acre park. Fort Flagler really is a jewel in the collection of Washington State Parks. The facilities are tired and worn like so many others, but the property is a treasure. This, like Fort Worden and Salt Creek were previously part of the set of encampments that protected Puget Sound during WWII.

Sunday night brought in clouds and rain, so Monday was a stay in the trailer day. Jon and Lynn headed home so we were alone for the night and enjoyed some chill time in Nonnie’s Diner. Tuesday morning brought clearing and blue skies for our short 80 minute trip back home. We’ll clean up the trailer and get her ready for winter. We may or may not make other camping plans this winter. This Outdoors RV is rated for four seasons and people do live in them year round in colder climates, so a nice dry weekend could inspire us later this winter.
