2027 Dosewallips Campout

When are we going:

Second weekend after Memorial Day, starting Thursday this year: June 10 to June 13th, 2027. Nonnie’s Diner will be there Tues the 8th thru Mon the 14th. We can add more days to individual sites if anyone wants to extend their time.

Where are we going:

We chose Dose again because there is so much to do and we didn’t have enough time last year. The same three cabins are rented, but the tent sites changed a bit based on availability.

Turns out that124 where the trailer was last year is very popular and I couldn’t get it booked again this year. So we’ll put the trailer in 123 and still have that area in the middle for us. I also booked 122 because it has a nice area behind it with lots of space.

Christine’s Notes from Booking:

Teresa booked 4 sites: 122, 125, 126 for tents and site 123 for the trailer
(slightly different than last year as not all sites were available).

John and Christine booked the same three cabins as we had last year, C3, C4 and C5

What to do:

Here are the trails around the campground. I think a few did some of these last year. I’m up for some this year for sure.

Up the Dosewallips Road about 4.5 miles above Brinnon is a nice half mile out and back walk to a really pretty waterfall. Alltrails says it’s popular, but also has some steep inclines and slippery rocks, so bring good shoes. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/washington/rocky-brook-falls

Another 5.5 miles up (all this is paved road) is the end of the road and trailhead for the rest of the Dose Road. Many years ago the river took out the road on a huge bend and it’s never been fixed. There used to be a hike through the woods to get back on the road with your bikes. We’ll go do the research and have our bikes, hopefully it’s more easily accessible and all vehicle free now for a great walk/ride along the river. I’m guessing Elkhorn Campground is an interesting place to bring a pack lunch.

And the walk to the tideflats still looks good. Word of warning though, if you choose to pluck some oysters or clams, be sure to check the status of PSP (paralytic shellfish poisoning) in the area. Hood canal shellfishing occasionally is closed becuase of that.

What will we eat:

I will work up the menu later. Having everyone pitch in at meals last year worked great and helped me out a lot. We’ll do assignments again like that. But this year I think we’ll cut back to 2 meals daily and grazing between. I’ll put out some cold cuts and finger foods so if you go for a hike you can pack a lunch, or just hang out and make a sandwich at camp. We’ll move the burgers and dogs meal to a dinner. Not sure yet what to do for our big Saturday finale meal. The shrimp boil was fun, but too many don’t like the hot spices and making separate pots is too hard. Maybe a potluck where everyone brings their favorite potluck dish? Maybe another tinfoil packet meal? TBD.
