Where are we going:
Salt Creek Recreation Area. When you get to the park, continue down straight towards the water, then go left in front of the three rows of RVs. Continue past another set of RVs and down into the woods. This is the “tongue”. Keep to the right and head around the loop. We have two spots reserved now, and will find two more from the available first-come sites on Thursday. We’re hoping to snag two more on the bluff. Once you get down to the tongue the cell service is bad, so keep an eye out for our trailer or Tundra. We’ll be watching for you, or text you when we get final site numbers reserved. Right now we have sites 62 and 67 reserved.
When will be be there:
Rob and I are there early Thursday morning, and will have all the sites ready early Friday morning. I’ll stop and grab a tent from Buddy to hold one of the first-come sites Thursday night.
What to do:
I have some games we’ll bring. Bocce Ball to play on the beach nearby. Base Camp to play at night around the fire. Yard dice to play Yardzdee, Farkle and 20 other games. A stunt kite to fly on the beach.
There are some epic tide pools at Salt Creek, but you need to be pretty agile to climb down when the tide is low. You also need really good shoes.
The Olympic Discovery Trail is all paved for the length of the north side of Lake Crescent. The trailhead is 10 miles from Salt Creek, and a fabulous (mostly flat) walk or bike ride.
There also is a really fun picnic area on the north side of the lake, but you have to drive all the way around the south side if you don’t have bicycles. But it’s a great picnic spot with good swimming for the brave.
What will we eat:
You know I’m the food planner! I’m happy to organize and provide the food. Here’s a list of what I have in mind. I’m hoping to have all the food prep done and we can all assemble and cook. I’ll make beef and/or pork and chicken options for all the meals. If you’d rather cook and eat something else let me know and I won’t get as much.
Saturday night we’ll do a DIY Tinfoil Bake. You’ll assemble from a pile of meats, veggies and sauces and bake in foil over the fire.
